ある日死体が消えてしまう？ 死体が勝手に動く？ なんてそそられる事件だろう。してその結末は!? そりゃもちろん読むしかありません。ですから読みました。読み終わって、こんな複雑な気分を味わった本は初めて。こんなのを異色作というんでしょうね。

ホラー風味でありハードボイルド風でもありもちろんSFでもある。
非常に不思議な味わいがあり、レムの作品中では一番好きだったりします。
いちおしです。この魅力はもっと多くの人に味わって欲しいものです。

スタニスワフ・レムが死んだ。８４歳。
死因・日時は不明。３月２８日に助手が
「クラフクの病院にて死亡」と発表。

本作は、私にとってレムのベストである。
（２３歳のときに読んだ。「ソラリス」や、
「浴室で発見された手記」よりも後。）

ジャンル分けすれば、不条理SFではあるが、
不条理とは、或いは条理とは何か、以前に
人間の知性で組み上げられた条理が
あるとすれば、人間の知性自体が
どの様に組み上がっているのか、いや
それ以前に、「現象」とは、そして
その「現象」が起きる場である「世界」とは
についての、ミステリー仕立ての
物語である。

この事件を「解決」してしまう人物が
統計学者なのだが、エクセル等を、
使い倒して、「俺は仕事が出来るんだぜ。」
と思い込んでいる坊ちゃん（或いは、お嬢ちゃん）
自分が一体何をやっているのか、
知りたければ、本作を読むと良い。

反精神医学者R・D・レインは、昔、
「現代の教育は要するに、コンピュータ付きの
白痴になれと、要求しているのだ。」と
述べたが、本作を思い出すと、益々、
その傾向が強くなっていると
思ってしまう昨今の状況である。

なお、故人となったレムを
偲ぶが、レムの冥福を祈ると
書いたり、合掌と書いたりするのは、
ちょっと、というか、かなり違うと
思われるので、書かない。
