フランスは本格ミステリの土壌がないといえるところなので、このような本格ミステリは珍しいです。

降霊会、ドッペルゲンガー、魔術等道具立て趣向を揃えてこわがらせを行っています。残念なのは作者のデビュー作故か全てに於いて書き込みが浅いこと。怖がらせの材料は揃えているのですが、それぞれが有機的に結びついていません。それでも、最後のメタな結末は後味を悪くさせることこの上なし

時は1979年。イギリスのある街で繰り広げられる事件の数々。
密室殺人・幽霊屋敷・交霊実験・稀代のマジシャン　フーディーニ・・・。好きな人には、もう、たまらないこの組み合わせ。

おまけに読んでる方が「どうやって収拾つけるんだろう？」と心配になるほどの謎また謎の展開が最後には合理的に解決されて、おまけに「あっ」と驚く仕掛けが隠されています。
最低二回は「えっ」もしくは「うーむ」と唸ります。
さすが「フランスのジョン・ディクスン・カー」と呼ばれるだけのことはあります。

ミステリー執筆のきっかけが、フェル博士ものの続きが読みたいから自分で書いた、と云うのですから筋金入りですね。
フェル博士やH.M卿にもう一度会いたい！と思っている方には、特にお勧めの一冊です。

本格ミステリが育つ素養がないフランスでは異端児の
ポール・アルテのデビュー作
降霊会、ポルターガイスト、ドッペルゲンガーと
まあ、いろいろと取り寄せている割には
全体的に消化不良
今年に出版されるらしい第二作に期待
