コナン･ドイルに傾倒し、伝記を記した直系とも言える推理小説作家
ジョン･ディクスン･カーと
ドイルの息子であり作家でもあるアドリアンが
正典を仔細に研究し、事件やホームズの性格、推理方法を
細かく設定した上で書き上げた、
パスティーシュの最高峰。

当初１２本合作する契約を結んだのですが、カーは６本で降りてしまったため
残りの６本はアドリアン単独の作品となっております

私が感嘆すること。父の残した不朽の名作を、あえてその息子が書きたすような事をしたこと。
一歩間違えば世界中のホームズファンから袋叩きにされるところだ。
それを彼はきちんと書き、
そこにあのベイカー街２２１Ｂでホームズとワトソンが本当にこんな会話をしていた。そんな思いがする作品。

しかし、個人的にはジェーン・トムソンの方が雰囲気や事件のトリック、意外性にとんだ内容で、私はこちらに軍配をあげます。

ドイルの息子、アドリアンとの合作。
初めの内はカーがプロット等すべてに参画して
トリックも創意溢れるパスティーシュを作り上げましたが
中途でアドリアンと喧嘩したあげく、
当時患っていた病気が芳しくなかったので
カーは引き上げてしまいました
それ以降はアドリアン一人で書き上げています
