写真もきれいだし、丁寧な解説と製作過程がでています。とりあえず一冊というのであれば他にもいろんな本が出ていますが、これがおすすめです。値段から見てもとてもお徳です。庭で雑に扱われていた苔や植木をみなおすきっかけになりました。

本格的な盆栽ではなく、小品盆栽と苔玉についての、包括的な解説本。
特に役に立ったのは、苔玉の作り方の実際、草もの盆栽の作り方の手ほどき、
先に針金をかけてから行う挿し木、苔の張り方、盆栽や苔玉の管理の実際などなど。

本書は、土の配合、日光、水やり、針金かけ、せん定などの実際について、
具体的に分かりやすく示してくれてあって、この分野のすべてに包括的です。

「分かりやすい解説」が心掛けられているので、個別の事に関しては省略されています。
小品盆栽も苔玉も、当然、その種類によって、管理の仕方が異なりますが、
それは、経験によってつかんでゆくしかないのかも知れません。
しかし、本書は経験のための指針とみなすと、心強いです。
代表的なもののみ、個別の解説は付けられてはいますが。

この分野の知識を、本当に包括的かつ深く記述すると、分厚い辞典の様になってしまいます。
それが、本書では、美しいカラー写真が多用されていて、手軽に参照する事が出来ます。

見事な良書です。

和系のガーデニングを始めたいと思いいろいろ調べています。
苔玉や草ものの作り方、小さな木の盆栽については
針金かけや剪定、芽摘みや葉刈りなどまで
初心者にわかりやすくていねいに教えてくれていて
はじめの一冊として手元においておきたいと思わされました。
特にモミジやマツなどを種から育てて小さな林を作るという
寄せ植え盆栽がとても魅力的で、さっそく近所の森まで
タネの採集に行きたいと思いました。
巻末のおすすめ盆栽植物リスト100点も参考になります。
写真が魅力的でパラパラとめくるだけでも楽しいです。
