タイトルから受ける印象ほどの内容は、感じられませんでした。
本の最終ページに「本書は過去約１０年の間、雑誌の掲載用に取材したもの、
執筆した記事をもとにまとめたものです。（以下略）」とありますが、
その通り、ばらばらの記事を１冊にまとめたかのような印象です。
本のタイトルにあるテーマを掘り下げたという感じではありません。

例えば１つのテーマに対して１０個の事象があるとして、
そのうち１個の事象とそれへの感想を述べてあるといった感じです。

とある記事には、「このテーマについては、過去何年か取材していないので、
５年ほど前の情報で記載する」という旨の文章があります。
本を世の中に送り出すことへの真摯な姿勢は感じられませんし、
一種の開き直りのようにすら感じます。

デザインについて書かれた本ですが、写真はあまり多くなく、
文章からのみイメージを膨らませるにも、限界を感じました。

ひとつひとつの記事が雑誌などに掲載されたときには、
イメージを補う写真が豊富であったり、そのときの最新情報であったりして
興味深かったのかもしれませんが・・・。

若いデザインジャーナリストだけあって、家具や

建築関係の会社やデザイナに取材する力はすごい！

しかし家電や携帯電話の取材時期がいささか古かっ

たり、ボルボやサーブといった誰でも思い浮かべる

デザイン面でも優れた自動車メーカーに触れていな

いなど、構成に難ありと思う。


でも自分の周りにも、いかに北欧デザインが浸透してか

を気付くには適切な本である。

今日、日本人は消費のために製品を買い、
日本の企業は売るために製品を作っています。
その背景にはお金しかない人生を物語っており、
貧困な生活しかしていないのではないでしょうか。
本書は「北欧」の家具や日常製品、デザインなどから
「北欧」の人たちと物の交流の仕方を紹介しています。
売り手である企業は利潤の追求だけでなく、
いかに人が豊かに使うことができるのかなど
人と物との関係性を熟考した上で製造しています。
また消費者はいつまでもその製品を使い続ける心構えを示しています。
拝金主義者、日本人は「北欧」から精神面でも学ぶ必要があるようです。
なお「北欧」と「」で括ったのは、
主に登場する国がスウェーデン、デンマーク、フィンランド
であるからです。
