NHK講座の一年分のスキットを中心に構成した教材である。高価だが、強くお勧めしたい本である。

まず、英会話の教材のレベルをはるかに超えた内容のスキットがよい。家族、女性、就職、青春、などに触れ、しかも結末がどうなるのか分からないように物語を構成している。次に、ネィティブスピーカーの声優の質が高い。他の教材のように退屈するということがない。第三に、教材の英語が重要な文法項目を無理なく納めており、これ一冊を勉強するだけで、ほとんどの文法項目を、インプットすることが出来る。

この本のもとになるスキットの放送がかなり前に終わっているので作品自体の新鮮みは薄れる運命であるが、この本が持つ語学的利点はそのような運命を凌ぐほど大きいと感じられる。

飽きやすい性格の私が終わりまで勉強できた珍しい教材である。

今年上半期に、NHKテレビ「出直し英語塾」なる番組で久しぶりに大杉正明先生のお声を聞いた方も多いとは思いますが、その大杉先生が以前、10年以上に渡り担当されていた「ラジオ英会話」1年分をまとめたものです。

他の方もおっしゃっているように、ストーリー展開については、色々と意見のあるところだとは思いますが、毎日20分・1年間かけて収録・放送された、そのライブ感を残しており、毎日聞き続けられる教材だと思います。

会話に出てくる表現や単語のレベルは、中級者向けによく考えられており、文字で追うと比較的簡単に理解できる内容となっているので、ヒアリング強化を考えている方には最初の教材としてお勧めできます。

他のレビュアーも触れていましたが、大杉先生とゲストの会話も、ヒアリングの練習には最適だと思います。たしか、このゲストとの会話だけを収めた教材も発売されていたようなので（別の年のものですが）、ストーリーものは苦手という方は、そちらを試されてはいかがでしょうか？

引き込まれるようなストーリーを！という方は、「家出の○○」や、「○○の冒険」などの方が良いと思われますが、毎日少しずつ聞くためのペースメーカーが欲しい方や、何より大杉版「ラジオ英会話」ファンには大推薦の一品です。

このCDを聴きながす以外にTOEICの勉強はまったくしてなかったのですが、50点近く上がりました。
レベルとしては、中級者（点数にして、500~650位？）の人向けの内容と思います。

とはいえ、ニューヨークを舞台に、主人公たちがそれぞれ悩みながらもいろいろと挑戦する（ダンス・料理・恋愛などなど）ストーリーが面白いので、特に、勉強のためというわけでもなく、聴いてみても良いと思います。
解説パートについても、適度に間にはさまっている（小休止の意味で）ので僕は良いと思いました。
