小難しい英単語がたくさん出てくる文章はイヤッ!!という人には特にお勧めです！
とても優しい英語で書いてあるのに、内容は「う~ん、なるほど」と考えさせられるものがたくさん。
日本語、英語にかかわらず、“いい文章”ってこういうものを指すのだろうなぁと思いました。

あと、読者に話しかけるような、でも馴れ馴れしすぎない語り口にとても好感が持てました。
一度に読破するも良し、一日１トピックこつこつ読むも良し。
肩肘張らずに気楽に読めちゃう本です。

　「Average American(普通のアメリカ人)」の手による随筆です。易しく綺麗な英語で書かれているので、TOEIC600点以上程度の英語力がある人なら、辞書無しでも読めるでしょう。ところどころ解らない単語があるかもしれませんが、飛ばし読みしても大方の意味は汲み取れます。出来れば一度目は辞書無しで、二度目は辞書を伴って読んでみるとより楽しめると思います。
　著者のケイ・ヘザリさんは大変な日本贔屓で、著書のあちこちで日本のよいところを褒めちぎってくれています。日本人としていい気分になりながら読めるところも好ポイントかと(笑)。
　価格の割に紙質が良くありませんが、大した問題ではないでしょう。

読みやすく、とっつきやすく、長すぎず、とリーディングには最適の本だと思います。TOEIC７００くらいあれば辞書なしですらすらと読めるのではないでしょうか。それ以下の方にはいい教材だと思います。日本とアメリカの生活習慣の違い、考え方の違い、日本に住んでいる間に日本人より日本人らしい一面を自分の中に見つけて吹き出してしまうエピソードなど、読んでいて楽しいです。高校でこういうのを教科書として使えば日本人の英語力はもっと上がるのでは・・・などと思ってしまいます。
ケイ・ヘザリさんのお喋りをよくラジオで聞いていましたが、この本にもかかれている様にテキサスの訛りなぞ微塵も感じられないきれいな英語を話されます。それと同様、文章も簡潔で分かりやすいクセのない英語です。<!P>英語の本読んでみたいけど、ペーパーバックはなぁ・・・という方、是非どうぞ。
