吉田カバンの創業者吉田吉蔵氏の娘さんで、バッグデザイナーの野谷さんの本です。

「えっ、ホントにこんなすごいのが作れるの？」
と、帯に写っているかばんを見て驚いたのですが、
たしかにこの本を見ながら作れば出来るような気がして買いました。
以前からロディア（メモ帳）のカバーを自分で作ってみたいと思っていたので、
いきなりですがオリジナルに挑戦してみることに。
練習作品として紹介されているパスポートケースを参考に
手順を追いながらつくってみましたが、プロセス写真が多く、
糸の通し方からへりや縫い終わりの始末など、説明も丁寧でわかりやすく、
小一時間ほどで作ることが出来ました。できあがりにも大満足。
材料、道具の解説も豊富で、造本も美しいので買ってよかった一冊です。
クラチカヨシダ表参道店に、野谷さんの作業風景を見にいきたくなりました。

素人向けの様な「初めてでもこんなカバンが作れます」という帯がついているけど、他の革細工の本には載っていない様な細やかな説明やアレンジに役立つ情報が満載。糸の扱い方、縫い方、始末の仕方などとてもわかりやすいです。独学で学ぶ人には最適な本ではないでしょうか。実際にこの本に載っている鞄を作らなくても革細工には役立つと思いました。こういう事が知りたかった！という本。第二弾を出版して欲しいものです。

全くの素人でも、作りたくなってくる、作れそうな気がする、シンプルでそれでいてスタイリッシュな革カバンや小物がたくさん（２１個も）載っています。用具や材料について、基礎テクニック、練習作品の作り方などの、本当に全くの革初心者がトライするために必要な情報が、順を追ってカラー写真で詳しく載っているし、巻末には用具・材料店ガイドもついていて、親切この上ありません。本の装丁がまたカッコいい、野谷さんならではヌメ革にステッチの表紙です。
