「もしも店長がもうちょっと頭がよかったら、私たちのちょっと異様な年齢層やルックスや話し方を見てすぐに、みながそれぞれの仕事のうえでかなりの人脈を持っているということがわかるはずだ」
「彼はまた持ち込みが起こるすべてのリスクとひきかえに、その人たちがそれぞれに連れてくるかもしれなかった大勢のお客さんを全部失ったわけだ」
自分のことを特別扱いしてくれなかった店長への嫌味ともとれるこの一節


人間としての底が見える
弱いものをいじめることに喜びを感じるなんて下等な振る舞い

小説家の先生のエッセイを読むと、
“小説のイメージと違うなぁ”と思うことがある。
けど、よしもとばななさんの場合はそういうことはまったくなくて、
小説にもエッセイにも共通して
普段彼女が大切にしていることや伝えたいことが明確にある。
だからこそ、ファンはしっかりとした信頼感を持って彼女についていける。

生きるということは、
死ぬ時に持っていく「思い出」を沢山作ることなのだそうだ。

私がばななさんの世界を理解できなくなったら
“自分の心がダメになったとき”なのだろう。
「小さな花のような細々としたくだらない幸せ・・・
そういうもので本当の人生はできている」という考え方がとても好き。
ならば、道端の小さな花も
美味しかった昨日のおやつも
目が合って微笑んでくれた散歩中の犬も
忘れないようにしっかり大切に心に刻もう。
そんな心がけが日常をきっと愛しくしてくれる。

5.0 out of 5 stars モヤモヤを言い当てる”妙薬”, 2006/7/22
　1997年〜2006年の10年間に様々な媒体に掲載されたエッセイを収録したエッセイ集。主に旅をテーマにした”T”、主に生活と働き方をテーマにした”U”、そして生命や家族を主なテーマにした”V”の3部構成で読みやすいです。
　テーマはほんとうに多岐に渡るので全編を通した感想は書くのがすごく難しいのだけど、改めてパラパラッと捲ってみて感じるのは、「普通感じていても言葉にできていないような思いを、すごく丁寧にきちんと言葉にしてくれているなあ」ということ。例えば『命の叫び』の一節、「相手の不在とか、不親切を前提にして、自分が被害者であることを前提にして生きている人がたくさんいるような気がする」。これなんかは、今の世の中が何かおかしいどこかおかしいというその根本をバチリと言い当てていると思います。

　何か世の中がおかしい、とは感じていても、何がどうおかしいとうまく口にできずどうしていいかもわからずモヤモヤしている気持ちが、そのモヤモヤと「こんなふうにしてみてはどう？」という誘いかけが柔らかい言葉で明瞭に記されていて、疲れていても毎日しっかりやっていきましょうという気持ちになれます。個人的には、この1997-2006年の間の『海のふた』『みずうみ』『イルカ』といった著作のテーマと背景を考える資料としても大変面白かったです。
