アイルランドの音楽が日本でも流行していますが、私が驚くのはアイルランドのポップスが伝統音楽に深く根ざしているということ。日本では伝統音楽とポップスというと、正反対の音楽という感じがするのですが。

この本では、アイルランド人がいかに音楽を愛し、朗読や歌唱をふくめた「うた」に親しんでいるかということが、作者の体験を通してかかれています。文体も親しみやすく、著者と一緒にアイルランドをさまよっている気分になれますよ。

本当に読み易い本です。親しみ易い文体で書いてあるので本当に楽しめるのです。アイルランドのパブについて臨場感たっぷりに書かれていて、自分も著者とともにパブでグラスを傾けながらパブを味わえる、そんな本です。

「声の文化の現在」という一見難解そうな副題を、分かり易く親しみ深く、且つ「声の文化」について体験を通して深く綴っていて、エッセイというには日記臭く、日記というには中身が濃く・・・・・とにかく面白いです！！
思わず「ワン・パイント・オブ・ギネス、プリーズ！！！」とカウンターに乗り出したくなりますよ。

アイルランドの音楽などが日本でもよく聞かれるようになりました。そこで気づくのは、アイルランドのポップスが伝統音楽に深く根ざしているということ。日本では伝統音楽というと、一部の人だけが楽しむもの、というイメージがあるのですが。この本では、アイルランドの人たちがどんな風に伝統音楽や、歌唱や詩をふくむ「うた」に親しんでいるかということが、作者の体験を通して描かれています。文体も親しみやすく、作者と一緒にパブを巡っているような感覚が味わえます。
