爽快痛快な読後感に、勇気を与えられる本です。
注釈がたくさんあることと、著者の語り口が明快かつわかりやすいので、建築関係以外の方でもすらすら読めます。

私は建築の専門家ではありませんので、この本が建築の勉強にどれくらい役にたつかはわかりませんが、20代をいかに過ごすか、逆境から学びとることがいかに大きく、また自分を成長させるか、人生に迷ったときに非常に励まされる本だと思います。お勧め。

言わずと知れた、安藤忠雄の建築論と思いきや…？

これぞ、元気の出る栄養ドリンクのようなエネルギッシュな読後感である。建築関係各位のみならず、広告業界関係者や営業担当者に、特にお勧め。敵陣に一人立ち向かう戦士のごとく、次々と設計コンペに挑む姿は、読む者に共感さえ思い起こさせる。安藤忠雄の「負けないゾ！」は、読者自身の「負けないゾ！」を喚起するかのようだ。

純粋な建築論をお望みの方々には、『建築を語る』に三歩譲るが、本書が大学で建築家を志す若者たちを対象にした
講義録であることを鑑みると、さもあらんと納得がゆく。
エールを送り、応援歌を高らかに歌い上げる。安藤忠雄の建築に寄せる情熱が直に伝わってくる好著である。

私の想像していた通り、安藤は頑強な信念をもった努力家であり、かつ謙虚な人物である。いわゆる「名声」とは氷山の一角に過ぎないということをこの著書を通じて理解することができる。つまり、他人がうらやむほどの光り輝く名誉というものが実は無数の失敗の中の極めて僅かな「点」に過ぎないとうことだ。他人はその「プロセス」全体を知りえないので、嫉妬・羨望の目で栄光を享受している人を見る。しかし、当事者にとって「成功」とはそれ自体が目的ではなく、自分自身の能力を高めるための計り知れないコストをかけてき「た」と同時に、その「コスト」をかけながら学ぶ姿勢を忍耐強く維持し続けてきたプロセスで経験するごく一部の出来事に過ぎない。その学んできた過程でのごくごく僅かな「ご褒美」と!!して「名誉」なり「成功」がついて来る。安藤の著書から学ぶべきことは安藤がコンペで負けても、勝者となった作品を「冷静」に観察できる眼を「常に」もっているということだ。もちろん自分自身が勝者となった場合にはそれはそれで素直に喜べばよい。しかしそれにおごらず・おぼれず、敗者になっても、自分自身を冷静に分析し、かつ同時に勝者からも学び、次の自分自身の能力を高める「糧」にする冷静な姿勢が重要だ。ある意味で人生を充実したものにするための「したたかさ」を身に付けることはわれわれの日々の姿勢を問い直すことを意味するのかもしれない。本書はこのような感想を評者に抱かせた。
