4.0 out of 5 stars 川上弘美節の、妙に枯れた味わいのある青春小説。, 2006/12/17
序盤〜前半はいまひとつ作品世界に入り込めず
「おやまぁ　川上弘美作品にしては珍しい」と思っていたら、
中盤を過ぎたあたりから突如、最初の遅れを取り戻すかのよーなものすごい勢いで
引き擦り込みにかかってきた。

あっさり搦め取られてしまい、気づいたら最後の頁だった。

特に夏休みに五島列島（だっけか）を訪れる辺りから、
物語は急転直下のクライマックスへと突き進んでゆく。
といってもやはり川上弘美節、
どこかゆるくてもやもやとしたクライマックスではある。

カテゴリとしては青春物語？川上弘美作品にしては珍しい感じ。
佐藤多佳子の青春モノほど清々しく突き抜けてもいないし、
山田詠美の青春モノほど大人びてもいない、
青春のはずなのにみょーに枯れ木の味わいが感じられる（川上節の真骨頂）、
それでいて「ちゃんと青春している」あたりがなかなか新鮮だった。

主人公は折り目正しくマジメな男の子だけれど、
周りにいたらあんまり面白くないタイプだと思う。
私はむしろ、親友の花田くんがすごくすごく好きだ。
あの一本気で筋が通った感じ、とてもいい。

著者の小説としてはフツーな感じでぐんぐん読み進めますが、主人公の友人の花田くんに注目すると、それもかなり怪しくなります。全体的に会話は村上春樹のように軽やかに進むので、あの独特の間が好きな人にはかなりいいでしょう。主人公はなぜかほれられる、というのも共通しています。

花田くんのあやしさは読めばわかりますが、主人公と似たもの同士でありながら行動派な彼には好感がもてます。しかも内省的。主人公の彼女が「ただの少女」なのに比べて、この友人には妙に存在感があります。特に後半部分の描写はおもいっきり同性愛的に読めてしまいました。

母親と大鳥さん、また母親の現恋人など、主人公をとりまく大人達は存在感があるのに、行動はあやふやで読んでて落ち着かない。でもそれほどイヤな感じはなく、後半の、花田と過ごす夏休みの場面がよかった。自分の高校生の頃を思い出し、思い通りになることは少なくても、いろんなことがこんなに自由だったら良かったのに、と思った。
