文庫の表紙の絵は内容とよく似合っている。
雨が降るように静かで、青空を包んだ曇り空のように、
落ち着いた穏やかな物語。

耳を病み、恐らく心をも病んでいる主人公は
一度自分から離れてしまったものは
もう二度と戻らないのではないかという不安を抱えている。
それは例えば声のように、去っていってしまった夫のように。
突発性難聴の耳は音を判断することができず、
心はまた現実と記憶とを区別できない。

不安定な彼女を支えるのはＹと甥のヒロ。
二人は架け橋となり、食事をしたり話を聞いたり手を引いたりして、
明るい方へ彼女を導く。
たまに立ち止まったり、記憶の奥に戻ってしまったりしてもいい。
世界へ出るということは強さではない。
尊重、肯定の心なのだ。
全てを受け入れられる安心感と現実の明るさ、
しかもそれは本人の内から出すことができる、と
言われているように思う。

作者はＹのように世界をくっきりと文字としており、
どのシーンも映像が浮かぶ。
冬の光のような、鈍いが確かに明るい余韻を残す。

　入り混じる幻想と現実。作品の雰囲気は同著者の「冷めない紅茶」に似ていた。違う点は読み終えて全ての謎が解決する所か。
　小川洋子の作品としては「博士の愛した数式」と同じくらいわかりやすい話であり、個人的には非常に助かった。このような作品を読まないと「私は小川洋子の作品をまったく理解できないのか？」と自己嫌悪に陥ってしまう。
　それでも私は小川洋子の作り出す冷たく、綺麗で、幻想的な世界が好きなのだけれど．．．

　主人公「わたし」と速記者Yの静かで美しい関係が読者をやわらかな空気で包みます。記憶と現実・・・。もしかしたら、今の私は、どこかにいる本当の私の「記憶」かもしれない。そんないつもは感じないことを思ったりしました。
