ジャケ買いで購入を決めた本だったけど、小川作品の中で、かなり好きな作品かも。しかし、これまたエンデの「鏡の中の鏡」っぽくはあるのだけど・・・・。でもこの短編集は本当に良いと思います。かなりグロテスクな世界を小川さん独特の美しい文体でどこまでも静かに描いてます。キリコの絵を眺めるような焦燥感が作品を読んでいるあいだ、ずっと心に浮かびます。最後までその緊張がほどけないカンジがよかったです。

小川洋子はその名の通り、さらさらと流れる小川のような物語を紡ぐ。
その小川の中には狂気の水や、みだらな水も含まれているのだが、相変わらず水は清く、澄んでいる。
それを飲んだ人のなかには、魅せられて飲みつづける人もいる。
かく言うわたしもその中の一人だ。

この本は短編集になっている。
すべての話は糸が絡まるように関連している。

死んだ息子の誕生日ケーキを買いにくる女、指の形をしたニンジンを収穫する老婆、心臓を収める鞄を創る職人、拷問博物館の学芸員など、登場人物は何かしらの事情を抱え、そして何からの関連を持つ。
読んで、そして彼らと関連して欲しい。

芥川賞をとった「妊娠カレンダー」と似た、
少しブラックめで奇妙な味のするお話が多いと思います。
ただ、短いお話が多いので、インパクトは、やや弱い気もします。

これは、私だけかもしれませんが、
小川さんの作品の魅力の一つには、その世界観にドップリ浸れる、
というものがあると思います。

この作品集では、それぞれのお話の結びつきが、あまり強くなく、
「密やかな結晶」でのように、その不思議な世界にドップリ、
という感じにはなれなかったのが、残念でした。
