読み進めながら、何故これまで読まなかったのかと後悔する。
40年前に書かれた論文でありながら、現代の状況をこれほど的確に
明察していることには、驚く他、言葉が見あたらない。
著者は「情報産業」という言葉を最初に使用し、現在のいわゆる「IT産業」
だけではない、広義の情報産業を解説している。

そして、情報はあまねく産業にこれまでもあったのであり、
今後の展開は農業・工業に続く人類最後にして最大の革命である、
と主張している。
今読んでも独創的であり、情報というものの本質を鋭く見抜いている。
現代人必読の書と言えるだろう。
欲を言えば、情報産業の無限の可能性と共に、陥りやすい危険性に
関しても触れて欲しかった。

現代、情報が織り成す危険な出来事に対して、
著者は当時どのような考えを持っていたのだろうか、ということは
非常に気になる部分。

1962年に書かれた、情報産業論という論文が核にして、農業ー＞工業ー＞情報産業への移り変わりについての筆者の考えが書かれている。

今だにこの論文が４０年も前に書かれた、というのが信じられないのだが、そのころはそのころで家庭用テレビが普及し始めた頃で、新たなる情報メディアの出現と同時にいろいろと考えた人がいたんだろう、と思われる。

情報に対していかにお金を払うのか。
情報産業に対する農業＆工業の関係。

これまでの４０年に対して有効であるばかりでなく、これからの情報社会での生き方へのガイドにもなるであろう名著。

アルビントフラーが、「第三の波」で世界中にセンセーションを巻き起こしたが、そこで述べている内容とほぼ同じようなことが、その30年ほども前に書かれた本書に述べられている。

まだコンピュータも一般的ではない頃に、「心の時代」が来ると予言していた著者には驚かざるを得ない。
またその根拠も、大変ユニークではあるが、ロジックには背筋が通っており、今読み返しても曇りがない。

最近の占いブームや、（悪徳）新興宗教の跋扈なども本書のロジックですべて説明がつくなど、一種の予言書として読むと、面白さが倍増する。

なぜこの時代に本書が英訳されなかったのか、大変残念に思う。
日本人として世界に誇りたい、そんな本である。
