3.0 out of 5 stars 人間の歪んだ姿を書いた短編集, 2003/8/14
タイトルの「贅肉」を初め、この本のテーマは
｢歪んだ人間心理」と言えると思う。

些細な出来事をきっかけに、転がり落ちていく
人の人生・・・。誰にでも起こりそうなところが
また、とても怖い。

｢贅肉」は思わず、主人公である妹に同情して
しまうほどの、美しかった姉が醜く変貌し、
不気味な存在になってしまう過程が描かれている。

もし、わたしにこんなことが起こったら・・・
と思わせられて、鳥肌が立ってしまった。

夏に読んだら、涼しくなれるような感じです。

才色兼備の姉、葉子。どこに行っても彼女に注目が集まってしまうから、
道化役に徹していた妹、裕美。美しい姉の横顔に嫉妬や羨望や諦観やらが
入り交じった感情を抱きつつ、彼女を観察する、裕美の視点で描かれたのが本書。
その言葉は時に、ぞっとするほど冷酷だ。

物語の展開は、母親の死、そして姉の失恋という決定的な損失によってひきおこる。
何事にも完璧だった姉はひきこもるようになり、過食をするようになり、醜い身体へと転じていくのだ。

本書が描きたいのは単なる過食症の女性とその家族、というのではない。
裕美の心理の、その裏に潜む事実は少しずつ読者の目にに明らかにされていく。

そして、物語の終焉の衝撃的な事件によって
裕美が生きていく上で礎としていた存在が明らかとなるのだった。
非常におぞましい結末です。それはさるきちの予想以上の。ひぃぃと悲鳴をあげてしまうほど。

本書には他にも4作の短編が収載されていますが、
どれからも感じられるのは、想像力は危険、ということ。
想像力は暴走し、ねじ曲げられ、拡張され、ヒトを破滅に追い込むことがある。
そんなココロの負の部分に焦点を当てたのが本書であろう。
共感してしまう自分に誰もが動揺するかもしれない。
でも、誰しもが持っているのよね、醜い負の要素。
