セルカン,アニリール
1973年ドイツ生まれ。国籍はトルコ共和国。工学博士。大学卒業までをドイツ、スイスで過ごし、1995年イリノイ工科大学建築学科卒業、1999年バウハウス大学建築学科修士課程修了。宇宙エレベーター計画など、宇宙構造物に関する研究開発により、U.S.Technology Award、ケンブリッジ大学物理賞及びAmerican Medal of Honorを受賞。現在は先端技術を応用し、インフラに依存しないで暮らせる空間技術(INFRA‐FREE LIFE)を開発、研究している(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

この著者に関わる一連の騒動は、我が国の大学、マスコミ、出版界、一般社会人の理系リテラシーなど、非常に多くの問題を顕在化させるものだと思う。

日本の研究機関をまんまと欺いた「ほら吹き男爵」ことセルカン氏。科学者ではなくコメディアンであるが、多くのまじめな日本人の老若男女が氏の講演を真剣に信じてしまった。氏のフィクションをサイエンスと誤解した方が未だに存在するのはさすがに社会問題である。氏の熱烈な信者たちは多くの場合サイエンスを学んでいない者たちであるため、科学者たちは一致団結して真実を知らしめるべく声をあげなければ、と痛感させてくれる一冊である。

この本の購入を検討している方は、著者の経歴についての下記の記事を必ず参照して下さい。
日経ネット2009.11.09「東大の30代男性助教、業績論文の存在確認できず　不正の疑い」

記事では「疑い」とありますが、鹿島建設社員である私自身が確信を持ってお話できるのは、著者の経歴（下記参照）

にある2000年の鹿島建設に関する経歴は明白な虚偽である、ということです。
鹿島建設には宇宙開発設計部なる部署は過去も現在も存在していないし、当時27歳の著者が部長職に就くことなどありえないからです。
