　法務省との共同研究としてまとめられた服役中の犯罪者を対象とした大規模アンケート調査の結果。比較の対象として日本人犯罪者があるので、日本人犯罪者の傾向もわかる。但し、質問は外国人・日本人の差を確認するための目的から導かれた内容にとどまる。
　服役者への大規模アンケートということだけでもめったにない貴重な資料になっている。結果の解釈には深く踏み込んでいない。

著者と法務省との受刑者に対する共同研究を元に書かれているので、「外国人犯罪者」全般に対して適応できるかどうかはわかりません。しかも、結局、犯罪防止の対策を施すのは捜査機関や行政でしかできないことなので、読んだ後に、「で、俺はどうすればいいのか」と思いました。
直接は関係ないことですが、「日本は多文化共生社会に転換する以外に、今日の水準の社会経済的基盤を維持する道はないと思われる。」216p　というような訳のわからない決めつけが所々に散見されます。このような決めつけがあるが故に、外国人を移民として、労働力として受け入れなければならない、と著者は思っているようです。そのために、著者が存在すると思っている、外国人に対しての偏見を取り除こうとしているように感じられました。
