タイトルから想像される通りの内容の本です。
現状、取り組み、問題点、行政の対応、そして国際協力といった流れで、海岸に漂着するゴミについて解説しています。
私自身、スキューバダイビング中に空き缶をみつければ拾って持ち帰るようにしていますが、それも3つくらいまでが限界です。またある海岸で海藻にまみれた発泡スチロールや洗剤ボトルなどの山をみた時は「手がつけれない」と思いました。そういった状況も数字で示してくれています。いずれにしてもそういったゴミの8割は陸上起源というのには驚きました。
ただすべての環境問題の根本にあるのは、《増え過ぎたヒト》なのですが。

　本書を読むと暗澹たるおもい。この膨大な漂流・漂着する海ゴミの量。そのほとんどが陸上で廃棄されたものだという。ひとりひとりのマナーに期待するしかないのか。

わが国を囲む海を覆い尽くすゴミ。それらの内容と出した人間の追及。そしてそれらが与える環境への悪影響を知り。真の分別、ゴミの少ない生活に真剣に取り組むための一冊。本当に状況は逼迫している。安くて加工のしやすいプラスチックは簡単には自然には戻らない。加速度的に増えるゴミの量。われわれの意識の低さ。それ以上に動かない政府など問題はいくらでもある。中国が買いあさる日本のゴミやゴミのことなど一切口にしない政治家などには憤りも感じる。今までゴミのことなど考えもしなかったが、この一冊で考えを改めました。正しい価値観で毎日の買い物にゴミのことも考えて動きます。もうそう遠くない未来に自分の身に振りかかる危機を少しでも和らげるために世界中の人に読むことをすすめます。
