コケはマニアックでマイナーな世界なのですが、
初心者にも分かり易く、読みやすい文体でまとめてあるので、
入り込んでいくのが凄く楽で楽しい本でした、

特に無いようで意外とあるコケと人間の関わりが面白かったです、
何故コケを食べないのか？と言う疑問もこの本で解決しました、
理由は単純に不味いからなんですが、
何故不味いのか？と言う点にも言及しています。
（不味い理由は読んでのお楽しみ）

本書唯一の弱点は写真が少ないことです、
その上写真があっても白黒なのが重ねて残念！
でも、その点を差し引いても星５個の内容は十分あります

でも、内容は充実していますし、楽しめます、
コケに全く無知でも自然にちょっとでも興味のある人なら、
この本によって新たな世界が開けると思いますよ、
自然や植物が好きな方は是非御一読を！

「苔の話」で医療から自然保護まで。さまざまな分野の方が楽しめる一冊です。

この本は大きく４つの章に分かれています。
各章の中で私が「あ゛」と思った事を書いてみます。

1）コケ学事始め

「コケ」とされてきた３つの類が、遺伝子の変異量から、「互いに遠い間柄」だとわかってきた。

2）おそるべき環境適応能力

何千キロも離れた２ヶ所にだけ、ある種類のコケがあるが、
遺伝的にあまり違いが見られない。つまり分かれてから時間がたっていない。
(あの小さな胞子が何千キロも……？)

3）苔はこんなに役に立つ

i) 日本産蘚類８０種で、ほとんどに「ばい菌」を殺す物質が認められた。

ii) 大気汚染の指標としてコケが役に立つ。

4）苔に親しむ

万葉集にもコケの歌があった。

　興味がない人にはまったく興味がない話し。しかし植物、自然、身近な環境に興味があり、目が向く人には知的好奇心を充実させてくれる良書。コケの分類から観察のポイント、生活史、人との関わりあい、栽培のポイントまで一通り網羅してありまずは満足。できればコケの図鑑をあらかじめ購入し、見比べながら本書を読むとなお良い。
