アカデミー賞は年々没個性化しているような印象がありますが、この本を読めば昔のアカデミー賞を巡る俳優や監督たちのエピソードは笑えるものあり感動するものありとにかくおもしろいの一言です。
長らくアカデミー賞に縁のなかったヘンリー・フォンダが『黄昏』でようやく主演男優賞を受賞するまでの娘ジェーンとのいきさつ、授賞式欠席ばかりのキャサリン・ヘプバーンが1974年に初めて出席したわけ、受賞を拒否した二人の名優、など映画史に詳しい方ならおなじみのエピソード満載で楽しめます。
私もこの本を読んで未見の名作映画をもっと観たいという気にさせられました(でもTSUTAYAなんかにはたいして置いてませんよね…)
川本さんの筆致も淡々としていながらおかしみがあって、読みながらくすくす笑ってしまいます。
映画好きな人なら読んで損のない一冊です。
