1969年、山口県光市生まれ。小学2年生から体操競技をはじめ、16年間の現役生活を送る。筑波大学体育専門学群を卒業後、1992年4月、読売新聞社に入社。長野支局を経て1996年12月から東京本社運動部に勤務し、アマチュア野球、プロ野球ロッテ、西武、巨人の取材を担当。2003年1月から同社ニューヨーク支局勤務(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

松井選手の野球に対する取り組みなどを調べたくて読んだ本だが、結構面白かった。著者の処女作のようですが、文体も読みやすくて分かりやすかった。今まで巨人からメジャーに行ったパワーヒッターとだけしかイメージがなかった。が、子供の頃からの色んなエピソードがちりばめられており、松井選手に対する親しみが増した気がします。特にファンに対する姿勢について、松井選手が考えていることがよく分かり、なぜ彼がメジャーで「大活躍」とまでは行かなくても、人気があるのかが分かったような気がしました。
