こんなに爽やかな作品を読んだのは久しぶりです。
また、昔と今とを行ったり来たりする書き方はともすれば読みにくくなってしまいがちだと思うのですが、それぞれの話が絡み合い、発展していく様は秀逸です。
リュータの失踪が話にミステリーの味を加えていて、更にぐいぐいと作品に引き込まれてしまいました。

読み終わり、寮で共に過ごした友人達とまた会いたくなってしまいました。

　題名に惹かれて手にしたこの本が、竹内氏との初めての出会いでした。以来、大好きになってしまいました。大学浪人生として過ごした９０年と、１０年後の００年が、交互に語られることで、過去と現在が同時進行していく仕組みになっています。章立ても四月から三月までの１２章で、大学合格と今が交差します。“風に桜の舞う道で”出会い、別れ、そして今また出会う、懐かしい仲間達。隠れて酒を飲んだり、煙草をすったり、悩んだり、暴れたり、勉強したり。１８歳~２８歳は、変わり続ける１０年だ。リュータの行方を捜しつつ、大人になった僕らが青春を見つめ直し、「遠くならない記憶がある」ことに気付く。そして、感動して読んでいる私にもあった「青春」を、思い返しました。最後に、竹内氏はよく、かっこいいおじいさんを描くんだけど、これにも渡辺徳次郎という老講師が登場して若者達の中で、光るアクセントになっています。

予備校の特待生１０名が暮らす、桜花寮での一年と、その１０年後の寮生たちの姿を交互に描いています。
その寮生の一人・リュータが死んだという噂の真相を確かめるために、懐かしい寮生たちにリュータの消息を尋ねて歩く・・・という設定も無理がなく一石二鳥！

竹内真さんの作品を読んでいつも思うのですが、この人は本当に読んで気持ちのいい作品ばかり書く人です。
読後感の良さは抜群です！
後味の悪さや納得のいかない気持ちになることもなく、大きなどんでん返しで驚かされるということもない。
安心して楽しめる作家さんだと思います。

それぞれの出発や成長・・・「忘れていた青春時代を思い出す」のではなく、「こんな青春時代を送りたかった」と思わせる作品。
桜の似合う爽やかな青春小説でした。
