　秋葉原事件をはじめとする６例の無差別殺人事件の事例を丁寧に分析した本である。何よりも、犯人たちの人物像が生き生きと描かれていて、犯行に至るまでの経緯が手に取るようにわかり、恐ろしい部分もあった。その恐ろしさというのは、実は、無差別殺人に走った彼ら、いわば人であることから離れて｢鬼｣になってしまった彼らと、自分との間を隔てているのは一体何なのか、実は紙一重ではないのかという思いである。
　加藤容疑者の母親のスパルタ教育が週刊誌などで盛んに取りざたされたが､あれくらいの教育ママは私の周囲にも結構いる。下関通り魔殺人事件を引き起こした上部死刑囚がもし第一志望の医学部に入学できていたならば､このような凶行に走ることはなかったのではないかという気もする。依然として学歴社会である日本では､入試の成否がその後の人生を左右してしまうこともありうるのはたしかなのだ。
　その意味でも、子供を持つお母さん方に読んでほしい本である。

秋葉原事件の容疑者をはじめとして、無差別殺人事件を引き起こした犯人たちは､なぜ皆同じように「誰でもよかった」と言うのか？精神分析の手法で分析した本である。
大阪池田小事件の宅間守(すでに死刑執行）をはじめとして、なぜ誰も反省の言葉を口にしないのか？なぜ、逃亡せず､易々と逮捕され、場合によっては自殺するのか？さまざまな「なぜ」に迫っており、とても興味深かった。何よりも犯人たちの語った言葉には惹きつけられるものが多く、その人物像が活写されていた。そのため、彼らがネット上で「神」とか「英雄｣などともてはやされたのも、何となくわかるような気がした。もちろん、こういう読み方をすることは邪道なのだろうが、彼らがそれだけ若者たちを魅了しているという事実には､注意を払うべきだろう。

　６人の無差別殺人犯が犯行に至った経緯について、彼らの人生をさかのぼって分析した本である。描写がスリリングで､とてもおもしろかった。特に犯人たちの語った言葉には魅了された。
　それぞれの事例について､アメリカの犯罪学者レヴィンとフォックスの提示した６つの要因、憎悪と復讐、拡大自殺などの観点から分析しているのだが、なるほどと感じる部分が多々あった。
　また、言葉の端々に著者の誠意が感じられた。
　今年７月にも大阪でパチンコ店に放火する無差別殺人事件が起こっているが、誰でも被害者になりうる危険性のある現在だからこそ､ぜひ多くの人々に読んでほしい本である。
