岩崎 政利
1950年、長崎県生まれ。長崎県雲仙市吾妻町で農業に従事。28年ほど前から有機農業に切り替え、野菜の自家採種を始める。現在、約80種の野菜を生産し、50種以上のタネを採っている。NPO法人・日本有機農業研究会の幹事を務め、種苗部会を担当。長崎県の指導農業士。「スローフード長崎」代表

関戸 勇
1946年、福岡県生まれ。日本大学芸術学部写真学科卒。岩波映画製作所を経てフリーの写真家。自然や植物、庭などをテーマに写真を撮り続ける(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

「岩崎さんちの種子採り家庭菜園」の本を読んで以来、岩崎さんという人が気になっていた。プロの農家であり、昔ながらの、味を優先した固定種の野菜にこだわっている人だ。こんな人から、家庭菜園のコツを教わりたいなあと思っていたら、まさにこの本がそうだった！　岩崎さんは、生命力のある種を選び（それが、自分でも種採りが可能な、固定種の種だ）、季節に合った野菜を選べば、無農薬で元気な野菜が育つという。プロの農家は、本来の旬の時期に作ると値段が安くなるので、時期を早め、無理して作っているのだという。家庭菜園と、プロの農家の栽培は根本的に違う。そして、野菜本来の健やかさを楽しめるのが、家庭菜園だという！　目からウロコ、である。夏にはこんな野菜、冬にはこんな野菜が家庭菜園に向く、と、ベランダ栽培も含めて丁寧に書いてある。庭がせまいとか、ベランダしかないから、と野菜作りをあきらめている人にも、ぜひともお薦めの一冊である。

　とてもきれいな写真の本です。見るのにお勧め。耕作の参考にはなりませんが、種類を選ぶのに困る人はこれで外見はわかります。
