３度目の直島再訪でこの本に出会いました。「ベネッセアートサイト直島」はベネッセの展開する文化事業の一環ですが、企業とアーティストと住民の融合が、自然の中のモダンアートというコンセプトと合致して、違和感なく相乗効果を生み出しています。
監修は建築家の安藤忠雄氏で、２つのミュージアムと宿泊棟は安藤氏の建築ですが、才気あふれるアーティストたちが民家を再生させる「家プロジェクト」など見所は満載です。
現在「直島スタンダード2」というイベントの真っ最中ですが、そこには今後「家プロジェクト」に加えられパーマネントとなる作品もあります。
この本は今回のイベント内容も加えられて、どんどん進化する直島の「現在」が詰まったガイドです。

アート性の強い本はほんとに多い。訪問した際購入したが、
アーティスト自身の本はあっても、直島全体が素敵に見える本はなかなかない。
この本はそれがわかりやすく、しかも直島の雰囲気を見事に表している。
偏っていないので、各アーティスト達に思い入れがない方には調度良いです。

地中美術館の本も買ったけど、こちらの方が空間的にも作品的にも
写真がわかりやすくて良いです。

個人的意見ですが、でもこういった解説本は現地土産がよいかなと。
丁寧に書かれているので、知ってから観るのと、知らないで観る、感激は分かれると
思います。人それぞれだとはおもいますが。

美術館は好きでよく行くのですが、彫刻や現代アートは、
行く度、よくわからず、首をかしげる事が多かったので
せっかくの、直島旅行が首をかしげるだけで、終わるのはもったいないと
この本を購入しました。
おかげで、知らなかったアーティストや作品を行く前に
少しでも知れて、予約のいる『きんざ』や『文化大混浴』もいけましたし、
ベネッセハウスの建物、家プロジェクトも楽しめました。
