ほとんど「仙人」のように暮らしている主人公が、
冒頭から「ファンタジー」という名の謎の人物に遭遇する。

この設定からして、
「これから思いっきり浮世離れしたおとぎ話を語りますよ」という、
作者のサインは明らかだろう。
展開の現実性の乏しさに文句を付けたりするのは
いささか筋違いというものだし、
私自身が浮世離れした人間なのかどうか、
読んでいて全くありえない話だとは思わなかった。

この小説の登場人物は皆、
表面上はどこかおちゃらけていたり
根っからのすれっからしのようなポーズを取っていたりするが、
一皮剥けば、直球過ぎるほど直球というのか、
ものすごく真面目でナイーブな人たちばかりだ。
あえて欠点を指摘するなら、
新潟への旅を境に急激にシリアスなものになる後半の展開は、
作者の胸中がストレートに吐露され過ぎているように思える。
少なくとも、「ファンタジー」との噛み合わない会話が、
どこかとぼけた味を出していた前半に比べると、
やや結論を急ぎ過ぎているような印象を受けた。

とはいえ、風景描写や比喩の使い方の確かさは
ちょっと比類のないものだし、
周到に隠そうとしても抑え切れずに溢れ出る
作者のストレートさ加減に
むしろ好感を抱いてしまったこともあって、
☆四つという評価になった。

肩に力を入れず、ありのままの自分と向き合える様な本に久々に出会った気がします。
敦賀の海を中心に流れてゆく、ゆったりとした時間の中で新たな出会いと別れ、そして友人との再会も有り、決して自分の気持ちを押しつける事の無い、それでいて相手の気持ちが痛いほど伝わって来る。

そしてファンタジーの存在が、たまらなく良くて！　人間は運命の前では所詮無力で有る事を認めざるおえない。
悲しく辛いことも有るのに、読み終えた後、彼らに今の時間が永遠に続きます様にと願ってしまう・・・・・まさに脱帽の一冊。是非ご一読を。

はたからみたら相手の気持ちを良く考えているなと分かるのに
「自分のことばかり考えていたな」
とそのときの自己を振り返ってしまうような
とても好ましい男と女と
多分なにも頭の中にためているもののないファンタジー（神様）のものがたりです。


敦賀が舞台であるところも素敵な小説でした。
