一時期、ものすごく流行していて、ニュースはよくやっていましたが、
北京の医療スタッフや人々の個々の働きなど、そこに「人」のドラマや現実があるなんて、思いもしませんでした。本書はそういう意味で、色々と気づかせてくれます。
筆者は、現地に飛んで、色々と取材を重ねたようです。それがよく伝わってきます。

2003年、SARSは中国で爆発的に広まった。
WHOの調査があまり入らなかった中国では手探りの懸命な治療がなされていた。

SARS制圧宣言を先に出したベトナム政府の記録はよく見かけるが、中国の視点から切り込んだこの記録は、「日本でもアウトブレイクが起きたときにちゃんと対応できるのだろうか・・・。」という不安を呼び起こした。
強毒型のインフルエンザ（パンデミック）、狂犬病、そしてSARS・・・。
あっという間に世界中に広がる感染爆発。
読んでいて、ぞっとした。
