重松さんの新作は
教師と生徒の関係を描いた短編集。

教師って完璧ではない。
聖人君子でもないし、神様でもない。
この作品に出てくる教師はどれもいい意味でも悪い意味でも
一人の人間である。
責めることは出来ないけれど、
もう少しどうにかならないものか･･･と思う教師もいる。
でも、振り返ったときに
生徒と生徒の関係はどれも悪い思い出として残っていない。
もちろん現実ではそういうことばかりではないけれど、
自分の経験を振り返ってみても
生徒のときはすごく嫌いだった先生でも
今思い出すとなぜか許してしまえたりしている。

月日はいろんな意味で寛容なんだな。

重松さんらしく
泣ける作品もある。
腹の立つ作品もある。
でもどれもいい作品である。

教師と生徒、および、生徒が大人になった、その後が描かれている、六篇の短編集。
綺麗事ではない、厳しい現実が織り交ぜられながらも、温かい感性を伴って描かれている。

最初に配されている「白髪のニール」が示唆する事は多い。
ニールとは、ロックのニール・ヤングの事で、ニールは歳をとる事を歌い、ロックはロール？らしい。
ロックはロールとは、当初は、何の事だか分からないが、数十年の時を翔るこの作品は、白髪の先生がロールする。
普段は無愛想な物理の先生が、生徒に習って、慣れないギターを練習奮闘し、ギターをかかえてニールでロールするのだ。
ロールという言葉に、著者なりのメッセージが込められており、強く印象に残る。

著者は時々、野球部の話題を取り上げるが、五番目に配されている「泣くな赤鬼」は、野球部を舞台としていて、興味深い。
ただ、この作品の舞台は、野球部よりも病院での比重も大きく、涙無しでは読めない。

表題作の「気をつけ、礼。」は、ごく短い作品だが、非常に秀逸だ。
最後の数行に、先生の面影が色濃く投影され、哀愁と希望とが、交錯する。

著者の描く少年は、あたかも、著者自身のかつてであるかの様だ。

学校の先生と生徒にまつわる短編集。どの物語も派手ではないが、じんわりと優しく染みこんでゆくような物語ばかり。
特におすすめは　「泣くな、赤鬼」電車の中にもかかわらずに泣いてしまいました。

学校の先生ってやっぱり自分にとっても大切な思い出なんだなあと改めて実感させられました。
