   満ち足りていたはずの恋に少しずつ影が差す様を描いた表題作「号泣する準備はできていた」、妻のある男性との濃密な関係がずれはじめる一夜をつづった「そこなう」など、当たり前にそばにあるものが静かに崩壊していく過程を、江國は見慣れた風景の中に表現してみせる。また、若かりしころの自分と知人の娘の姿を重ねた「前進、もしくは前進のように思われるもの」や、17歳のときの不器用なデートの思い出を振り返る「じゃこじゃこのビスケット」では、遠い記憶をたどることによって、年を重ねることの切なさを漂わせる。

   各編の主人公は、もう若いとはいえない年齢の女性たちである。家族や恋人を持ち、同性の友人にも恵まれている幸福そうな生活の隙間に忍び寄る、一抹の不安やわずかなすれ違いは、誰もが経験したことがあるだろう。主人公の心境が「残りもののビスケット」や「捨てられた猫」といった身近なものに投影されるのも、江國作品の特徴である。決してドラマチックではない日常の瞬間を切り取った物語が、シンプルながらも美しくまとめられている。（砂塚洋美）

素敵なタイトル。そして直木賞受賞。

期待しすぎて読んだのが良くなかったか。話が淡々と進みすぎたような・・・。

それでも男と女が少しずつ離れていく微妙な距離感の描写は流石だと思う。
描かれている人間はふわふわした感じだけど、その心の奥底はとても人間臭い。

感情を思うようにコントロールできないことに苛立ち、それでも少々の我慢を受け入れなくてはならない現実と向き合っている。
そんな心の中に様々な悩みを抱える人間達の物語だ。泥臭い人間をみずみずしい文章で描く。こういうのを才能というのだろうなぁ。

12の短編集。夫婦のすれちがいや、行き場のない愛を抱えたバイセクシャルのカップル、少女の残酷が描かれている。ところが物語の中には、現実味や深刻さや重さ、ひいては毒のようなものがまったく感じられない。全体に流れる詩のようなトーンのせいなのか。いろんなシチュエーションが、ユーミンの歌の世界とだぶって見えた。
　私には、よその世界のファンタジーを見るようで入り込めなかったが、江國さんの世界がより現実に近い人もいるのだろうと想像した。人にはいろんな生活がある。別れや悲しみも、遠くの友人から来たエアメールの絵はがきを並べるように、記憶の中に収まってしまう人があるのだろうーーそういう意味で、興味深く読んだ。

題名から、いつもの江国香織のお話とは違い激しいラブストーリ？という勝手な想像をしてこの本を買いましたが、いい意味でいつもどおりの彼女の作品でした。短編集ですが、主人公は若い子ではなくどちらかというと３０代後半から４０代というところかな。自分と重ねられる年代の人にとってはいいかもしれません。夫とはいるんだけど、他にも好きな人がいて、というような話が多いため独身の人にとっては感情移入はあまりできないかもしれません。とはいえ、とても文章はキレイですのでがっくり、ということにはならないかと思います。あっという間に読めますので、気軽にどうぞ。重くない話ですよ。
