タイトルで購入決意。嵐山光三郎著。装幀もいい感じ。南伸坊。 嵐山光三郎に書けるのか、というのが疑問だったけれど、やがて彼でないと書けないことが判って来る。芭蕉専門家、俳句専門家の間ではタブーになっている話題ばかりだからだ。 冒頭に芥川龍之介の「芭蕉は大山師だ」という発言について書いているが、これは実際に芥川の文章を読んだ時に実に痛快だな、と思った文章だ。この言葉に勇気をもらいつつ、嵐山は進む。 古池の句でも、蛙が飛び込んでも水音などはしない、と苦言を呈する。なのにそこに幻の音を作ってしまったのが芭蕉の力なのだ、と従来の説を簡単に覆す。蛙が飛び込んでも音はしない。それは確かだ。私もそんな音聞いたことがない。 痛快に芭蕉像を崩して行くが、それと芭蕉の句を崩すことは違う。著者のイメージとは思いっきり離れているが、そこは丁寧に作品と人物を切り分けて書いている。面白かった。
