５つの短編に共通するのは受容。
一種の悪しきもの、忌まわしいもの、忘れてしまいたいこと、受け入れがたいつらいこと、それらを結果的にはある程度受け入れる方向で５編とも終わる。

ポイントは、そこで不思議とも思える「逆転現象」が起こること。
つまりそれぞれの登場人物が、一種の悪を受け入れたその時点で、彼らの中の害悪ともいうべきものが「減る」ことにある。

排除しようと思えば思うほど「それ」は増え、受け入れると「それ」は減る。---受け入れると減る？本当に人の心は不思議です。

この短編集からそれをみつけて、私は心底助かりました。変化していく著者の作品が同時代に読めることが、「今」こんなに助けになるとは・・・。村上さん、書いてくれてありがとう。思わず「長生きしてね」と言いたくなります。

興味がある方は、ぜひ一度「害悪の（感情）の受容という文脈」で読んでみてください。おもしろいですよ、きっと。（もちろんただ身を任せて読むのも楽しめます）

村上ワールドが詰まった「折り目正しい短編集」を久しぶりに読むことができて、とても懐かしく、嬉しい気持ちになりました。さまざまな年齢、性別、立場の登場人物が出会う奇妙だけど、リアルな出来事が淡々と「折り目正しく」描かれています。村上春樹らしい小説の面白さを堪能できます。これをもとに長編作品が生まれたら・・・という期待感を抱かせる短編集です。

「奇譚集」と銘打たれて思ったのだけれど、村上春樹の小説は受け取り方によってはほとんどの作品が「奇譚」であるような気もする。（僕が思うには、）極上の。今回の作品達は短編であるが故に、その不思議さが前面に顕れている。
本書は、傑作だ！と声を大にして言うタイプの本では無く、じんわりと来る短編集だ。心温まる話が多く、レイモンド･カーヴァーを思い出した。
最後の「品川猿」が一番好きだなあ。
ただ、どうしても個人的には「世界の終りとハードボイルド･ワンダーランド」「ねじまき鳥クロニクル」級の圧倒的な長編を希望してしまう。
書いてくれないかなあ。何年でも待ってます。
