この新装版は完全に村上春樹ファンのために発刊されたものです。さらにいうなら「世界の終わりとハードボイルドワンダーランド」が好きで、何回も再読しているという人向けの本です。

そういう人たちにとって(私も含めてですが)、この本は購入するに値する本です。個人的イメージにすぎないのですが、「世界の~」は通勤(通学)途中にちょっとずつ読んだりするのではなく、世界観にどっぷりと浸かって読むのが正しい読み方だという気がします。そういう意味でこの新装版は作品をより楽しむために最適です。また『地図』が書き直されていることや、章ごとに書かれている『挿絵』といったちょっとした変更点が再読する身としては新鮮に感じられてうれしいです。

当然のことながら内容は文庫版とまったく同じなので、初読の方は特に新装版を購入する必要はないと思います。何回も再読して文庫がボロボロになっている人、ひさしぶりに再読してみようと思った人、秋の夜長に小説の世界に浸ってみたい人、新装版オススメです。

大地下の暗黒世界を探検する場面は、「ハードボイルド・ワンダーランド」のパートで見せ場だと思うけれど、これは活字だから成立しているのだろう。他の媒体ではここまで闇の深さを表現することはできないに違いない。血沸き肉踊り「ワンダーランド」全開だ。「世界の終り」はリリシズムあふるる静かな描写が胸にひたひたと迫る。冒頭の「街」を描写するところは白眉。美しい文章の集合体にほれぼれする。今回は数年ぶりの再読だったのだが、ある台詞や文に物語全体を暗示する伏線が込められているのを発見するたびに、小説をより深く味わえているような気がしてうれしくなる。６００ページを越える大書だが読み出したらとまらなくなる村上春樹の長篇小説の真骨頂だと思う。

ファンタジーをハードボイルドが交互に書かれており、それが最後に融合するという小説で、読み始めたら一気に読んでしまいました。
短編も面白いのですが、長編は一緒に旅をしている様な気になります。
最後の章になって、両者の融合がありとても面白い小説でした。まだ読んでいない人が、これから読むとするのなら、うらやましく思えます。
