熊吾が大阪に戻ってきている場面からのスタートです。
１・２部とスーパーマン的な力を発揮してきた熊吾ですが、この巻ではその力がうまく働いておりません。手をつける事業はほぼ失敗に終わります。それとリンクするかのように妻・房江の視点からの語り口が非常に多くなります。
巻末のあたりで起こる事故にも熊吾はやや不運な巻き込まれ方をします。
ほぼ熊吾の物語であった『流転の海』は房江や伸仁などの多彩な視点を伴って、どんどんと深化しています。ああ！早く第4部を買いに行かないと。

３冊目もあいかわらず中毒性の強い小説であった。一度本を開いてしまうと、ページから目が離せなくなってしまうのだ。息子の伸仁は小学校に入学するようになる。そうするとバイタリティ溢れるすごい親父・熊吾と言葉によるコミュニケーションが成立するのだが、これがまた破天荒だけれどやたらめったら面白い。端から見ると信じられないような息子との接し方なのだが、熊吾ならやりかねない、いや、いかにもやりそうだ、と妙に深く納得してしまうのである。脇役に過ぎない登場人物たちもくっきりと鮮やかに描かれており興味が尽きない。心の底から「小説ってほんとうに面白いよな」と思わせるシリーズである。

再び大阪に戻って商売をはじめる主人公。
いろいろな事業に手を出し、次から次へと成功していく。
人間関係の様々な問題を彼流にかたしながら。
そんな人間模様と事業の拡大していくのはおもいろい。

この物語の最大のポイントは子供だ。
１部２部では存在だけが重要だった子供が、
この３部では主人公にとってかわらんばかりに、
縦横無尽に何かをやらかしたりする。
そこに子供を通して見えてくる自分の姿を、
これからの人生を主人公が考えさせられるのがよかった。
