現代の産婦人科医師不足の抱える問題を、医師と言う立場から描いた意欲作。
五体満足な子供が生まれてくることは、生物発生学の見地からすると奇跡にひとしいという、事実。「チームバチスタの奇跡」の一連のサスペンスとは全く異なる意図を持って書かれた書と思えた。
不妊治療を試み、代理出産をも手がける医師、曽根崎理恵。その信念に揺るぎはない。しかし、倫理的視点に立ったとき、その行為は認められるものなのか賛否は分かれることだろう。
作者はあくまでも客観的立場から問題を投げかけているが、それ以前にお産のトラブルによって、「医師」をも追われる産婦人科医の現状は考えなくてはならない。
人気作家の作品ゆえに、多くの人々の目に触れ、産婦人科医療を考えるきっかけになればと思わずにいられない。小説と言う形をとってはいるが、非常にメッセージ性の強い作品だった。

いつも楽しみにしている海堂尊さんの新作は、婦人科医療。これまでの軽妙な語り口はそのままに、現代の産婦人科医療や不妊治療、代理母などの問題をクール・ウィッチと呼ばれる新キャラの女性医師が切れ味鋭く語ってくれます。これまでの「医療ミステリー」よりも、より「社会派もの」に傾斜してますが、ぐいぐい読ませてくれる筆力はさすがで、一気読みでした。最後の出産シーンは迫力。立会いの経験のある私は、震えました。お勧めです。

著者の作品はどれも面白いので欠かさず読んでいますが、
この作品は2児の母の私には、号泣な作品でした。
（知的興味をくすぐられる場面や、んっ！それは…な部分もありましたが。）

お産は安全と考えている妊婦さんに読んで貰いたい作品です。
私も経験するまでは、日本のお産は安全だと思っておりました。
（医療が進んでいるので、ＮＩＣＵなどで助かるだろうと。
医療従事者なので医療知識もあるからなど…。知識があっても現実は厳しいです。）

健康に赤ちゃんが産まれてくれるだけで、どれほど幸せな事か噛締められる作品です。
特に、ラストの出産シーンでは号泣しっぱなしだったので、旦那が心配するほどでした（笑）

私だったら耐えられないだろう事も、
登場人物たちが耐えて幸せに代えていこうとする力に（著者の読ませる力に）
読書後も世界観を引きずってしまいました。

しばらく、ここまで陶酔出来る（考えさせられる）作品に出会えなかったので、
読者になれて嬉しい作品です。

「ジーン・ワルツ」という、タイトルも成る程な！と、著者のセンスの良さを感じます。
