好き嫌いが分かれる作品かなと思います。
著者の作品に「犬はどこだ」、「さよなら妖精」、「小市民シリーズ」、「古典部シリーズ」などがあげられますが（'07年6月現在）、
文章自体のあくはそこまで強くなくても、淡々と描かれる物語は、破滅への道です。
どうしようもなく、抗いようもないほどの、そうとしかならない終わりではあります。
「間違い探し」がこれほど残酷に響く作品も珍しい。
希望なんて一片もない、だけどないとは言い切れない世界です。
たった一言の言葉にあれだけ悩んで、考えて、出された「答え」が最後のページにありました。

ミステリー色はほとんどありませんが、あらゆる意味で衝撃を受けた作品でした。青春小説というイメージにある爽やかさは微塵もありません。語り手である「僕」が、自分が生きてきた世界とは別の世界に対面し、手に入れた真実…。そしてタイトル「ボトルネック」の意味。「もしも」の世界がこれほどまでに残酷だとは思いませんでした。息の詰まる、クライマックスには注目です。

受け入れるだけでなく、事態を打開しようと
考えて行動することの大切さを
教えてくれる作品だと思います。
私たちにはこの本の主人公のように
自分の行動がどれほど周りに影響を及ぼしているか
知る術はないけれど、それを少しでも良い方向に
向かわせるための機能が人間には備わっています。
それが想像力だってこともこの本は教えてくれていると
思います。
