ある特定作家の熱心な読者が新作に期待するものは、1一定のパターン化された物語進行2なじみのあるメンバーの活躍3その時代や情勢に即したプロップなどが上げられるだろう。
クランシー作品は一見別々の事柄がバラバラに無関係のごとく進行しながら、後半に向けてからみあいを現出し大団円を迎えるパターンが特徴である。例えば「恐怖の総和」における材木運搬船などはその典型である。
なるほど、この「国際テロ」はどれも網羅しているように思われるが、いかんせんすべてにおいて底が浅い。
登場人物の背景描写や設定は容易にネタバレしそうであるし、展開も「ははん、こうなるな」と読みやすい。
物語の終わり方も「えっ、これで終わり？」という感じで読み応えを感じない。
そもそもカルーソー一家がライアン家の親戚という話は過去作品に一度も出てきていないのに、この作品で急に双子が登場するのに違和感を感じるのである。アイルランド系のライアン家に明らかにイタリア系のカルーソー家が親戚である不思議。仮にキャシー側の親戚だとしてもマラー家の親戚とは信じがたい。どうせならジャクソン家の親戚の方が「親子二代で力を合わせて」と設定に無理がないきがするのは私だけであろうか。
また、この程度の話であれば全4巻のうち1巻の2/3くらいで済みそうな話である。今までのクランシー作品であればその先の展開があってもよさそうなものだ。

浅い、軽い、平板、これがこの本を読んだ感想です。
深さが全くない。物事の根拠が全く薄い。プロットが非常に平板。
ご都合主義の嵐（三流劇画なみ）
やっぱり、クランシーはもう書けないのでは。もともと、人物を
書き込む事が得意では無い彼ですが今回はさらにその症状が進行して
います。作品の最後の部分に今後を匂わす記述もあるのですが、この
内容では続編を作る事は意味が無いと思います。教皇暗殺もよくありません
でしたがこの作品はさらにひどくなっています。
また、訳者の田村源二様にも言いたいのですがこの表題は正しいのでしょうか。
「国際テロ」とありますがどこが「国際」でしょう。空間的な広がりは
ほとんどありません。テロと言っても規模はしょぼしょぼ。教皇暗殺の
時もそうでしたが表題に偽りありでは。

ジャック・ライアンシリーズ最新刊。
クランシーのストーリー・テリングはもちろん悪くはないのですが…。
主人公のジャック・ジュニア、ドミニク＆ブライアンのカルーソー兄弟ではジャック・シニアやジョン・クラークの代わりは務まりそうもありません。
対テロ作戦部隊と言うザ・キャンパスも、クラーク率いるレインボーの魅力には到底太刀打ちできる代物ではありませんし。
前作「教皇暗殺」もパッとしませんでしたし、そろそろクランシーには気合を入れなおしていただきたいものです。
但しストーリーは地味な分生々しいものになっています。
９月１１日のテロのテキストにされたんじゃないかと思う「合衆国崩壊」を書いたクランシーが、国内には警鐘を、テロリストには警告を与えるつもりで本作を書いたのかとも読めると言う点では、面白いかもしれません。
