この著書ではアポロ13号事件のほとんど全てが関係者の言葉として語られていて、コンピューターも旧式のものしかなかったあの時代に、NASAがいかに有能な頭脳集団であったかがあまねく描かれています。さてそこで映画ですが、この巨大な物語を２時間半におさめてスリリングな娯楽作品として仕上げたことは非常に立派でありました。あの分厚い本の中で視覚的に、そして物語的に使えると思われる出来事を抜粋して映像にしていく作業が映画作りというものであり、映画を見てアポロに興味を持ち、そして原作であるこの著書を読むというケースが多かったものと思います（私もそうでした）。ですので、映画が事実とちょっと違っているのでけしからんという考えは、映画作品というものをちょっと誤解しているのではないかと思います。

トムハンクス主演の映画が上映される数年前に、ドキュメンタリー番組で多少勉強していたので、映画を観てストーリーの薄さを痛切に感じ、原作を読んでみました。
事実は映画では語れない程深い内容なので、興味をもたれた方には是非ご一読をお薦めします。

映画ではさらっと描写されていたエピソードが、どれだけ困難な問題を抱えたエピソードだったのかが詳しく説明されています。

ジム・ラベル本人によって書かれたアポロの記録です。
映画「アポロ13」の脚本程度に考えていましたが、良い意味で裏切られました。アポロ１３のみならず、マックス・ペックの話、アポロ１の火災事故など、アポロのバイブル本「人類、月に立つ」（アンドルー・チェイキン）を凌駕するほどの情報量。650ページ以上の分量は伊達ではありません。アポロ好きにはたまらない内容です。
宇宙モノでは宇宙飛行士のみがクローズアップされがちですが、本書ではEECOM,FIDO,GNCなど各飛行管制官の人となり・仕事ぶりなども描かれていて、地上側スタッフの人間ドラマとしても大変楽しめます。
