年上の女性と若く美しい青年のお話です。
青年の人を愛する姿の美しさに心を動かされます。青年の女性に向けての言葉が素晴らしく、こんな風に気持ちを伝えられたら、もしこんな風に自分が言われることがあったとしたらと、憧れてしまいます。

また４０代を目前に控えた女性の微妙な恋愛心理が、サガンの細やかで美しい描写で描かれておりすごく興味深い内容で、時と共に揺れる心が難しくも感じるし、素晴らしいようにも感じます。

ヒロインのポールは三十九歳。
美しく、自立し、自分よりすこし年上の恋人を持った大人の女性です。
十五歳も若い美青年・シモンに熱烈に恋をされて、
それなのにヒロインが選んだ結末は…。

言葉では説明できないような複雑な思いが錯綜する大人の関係。
フランスでは三十代は まだ若い女性の範疇なのだとか…。
ラストは微妙な年齢のヒロインが出した結論なのですね。
サガンの物語は あっさりと簡潔な文章なのに深みがあって、
感傷的でロマンチックなのに甘すぎない。
そこがとても魅力的です。

主人公のポールが雨の中、はじめて年下の恋人に街頭で抱きしめられるシーン。
彼のツイードの上着と首筋の匂い。雨の音・・・この綺麗なエロティシズムが忘れられない。
結局、若く情熱的な恋人より、昔なじみのつれない中年男を選んだポールは、
その後幸せだったのでしょうか？
そして捨てられた美青年は、その後どんな女性と恋をしたのでしょうか？
自分が大人になってくるにつれ、この切なさはちょっと痛いくらいです
