どうして新潮はこんなに重要かつ面白い本を絶版にするのか？　もう一冊買っとくべきだった。まさか無くなるとは思ってなかった。

まず、訳がいい。カリギュラの訳は完璧！

内容は、実際にいたローマ皇帝カリギュラを元に、若いカミュが情熱を注ぎ創造した傑作と言っていい作品。演劇の本を読んでいても出てくることがあります。

カミュは自分でカリギュラを演じたかったというほどで、思想としても文学としても完璧に近い。皇帝として自分の自由を論理的に行動として証明しようとする一人の人間の葛藤が描かれている。
カリギュラのほかに、「誤解」もあるが、こちらは悪くはないけれども、カリギュラの出来がよすぎるために薄れて見えてしまう。

戯曲である。よって、言葉がカッコヨイ。シェークスピアみたいなものだ。しかも大げさで大ぶり。熱い。・おれが愛撫してやる女のそばで、夜の帳がおれたちの上に垂れ込め、おれが、ようやく満たされた俺の身体から離れて、生と死との間でかろうじて自分というものをつかまえたと思うその時、俺の孤独鼻、まだ俺の傍で意地汚く横たわる女のわきの下の快楽の苦い匂いで、すみずみまで満たされてしまうのだ。・弁護の必要はない。この世界は下らぬものだ。・人間どもは見るもおぞましい姿に変わる。一人前の男になるとは、こんなにも辛く、苦しいことなのか。

論理的に生きる―これだけを人生の信条にした王は、無慈悲に処刑を繰り返すカリギュラ。彼の言う「論理的である」ということはいったい何なのか？なぜ彼は殺さねばならぬのか？
この「論理的であること」の裏にあるのは常にカミュの文学の根底にある「不条理」。カリギュラは戯曲であるためもあるのでしょうか。この奇妙で複雑なテーマをダイレクトに書いていて非常に面白い。（収録作品「カリギュラ」について）

このような非常に興味深いテーマを書いた、非常に良質な短編です。カミュの生涯のテーマ「不条理」を垣間見られる名作！！

学校の授業で「カリギュラ」を扱ったのですが、
なぜ「カリギュラ」を扱いたいのかわかりました。
人間は神になれない葛藤みたいなものを感じました。
