私（女です）自身、実際赤毛のアンを読むべき年頃（？）には、
なぜか少年文学的なものに夢中になっており、シャーロックホームズが心の恋人だったのですが、
２０代になってから、そういえば「赤毛のアン」ってちゃんと読んだことないな〜→一応読んどくか、程度の勢いでシリーズを読み始めました。
結果、３０代になった今でも、マイベストテンに居座っている、思い込みたっぷりの愛すべき本となっております。
今更「赤毛のアン」もなぁ〜、と思っているそこの大人のアナタ。
読んでから言いましょう。女の子に生まれたなら、幾つになっても「アン」を読む資格有りです。
６０代位の女性が、電車の中でカバーもつけずに「赤毛のアン」を読んでたら、
なんだか嬉しくなりそうです。
読んだ人なら、この気持ち分かってもらえるはず。
「アン」は永遠に全ての女子の親友なのです。

アンシリーズは第10まで続いていますが､やっぱり一番好きなのはこの｢赤毛のアン｣でしょう。
アン自身もすごく好きですが､グリーンゲーブルスのアンの生活が好きなんだと思います｡ていうか、マシュウが大好きです｡マシュウとマリラとアン､この三人の生活を読めるのはこの巻だけなので､何度も読み返してしまいます｡

マシュウがアンに注ぐ愛情を書いてある場面では､毎回泣かされます。初めてアンに、無償の愛を与えたマシュウ。おとなしい彼は、この本でもしょっちゅう出てくるわけではありませんが、アンにとって一番必要なものを心から与える、大切な人です｡
みなさんも、マシュウ･カスバートにぜひ出会ってください｡

いろいろな方の新訳が出版されていますが、やはりこの村岡花子さんの訳が、私にとっては一番しっくりきます。言葉遣いは古風ですが、そこがまた何とも言えない雰囲気を醸している気がします。何度も何度も読み返しました。名訳だと思います。版を重ねていることが、その証明ではないでしょうか。
