ピーターパンの話はディズニーのアニメや絵本などになっているので有名ですが、この本にはウエンディもネバーランドもティンカーベルも出てきません。
舞台はケンジントン公園という公園で、ウエンディの代わりにメイミーという女の子が出てきます。ウエンディがピーターパンにとってお母さん代わりだったのに対して、メイミーは恋愛対象として書かれています。
これが本当にピーターパンの原作なので、読んだ事がない方はぜひ一度読んでみてください！！今まで知っていたピーターパンのイメージと違うのでビックリすると思います。薄い本なので読みやすいのもイイですよ☆

自分がこのピーターパンの原作を読んで、はじめはああ外国（イギリス）の児童文学とはこんなもんか、とか、ディズニーのピーターパンとは随分違うんだなとかそういうような事を思ったが、読んでいくうちに、ピーターが女王に母親のところに戻りたいと願い母のもとへ戻り、ケンジントン公園に戻った後でもう一度母親のところに戻ると、母親は新しい子供を自分の息子として迎えており、もう母親の息子ではなくなっていた。この時、もしピーターが公園のほうに帰らず母親のもとにとどまっていれば、母親の息子のままでいることができたと思い、非常に残念な話である。これはソロモンの、私たちたいていの者には二度とめぐってこないという言葉通りだった。この事を通じ、好機が二度もめぐってくるものではないからこそ、人生の中で一回一回の自分にとってのチャンスをいかしていく事が大切であるという人生の教訓の様な事をこの作品は伝えているのだと思う。そういう教訓めいたことが原作を通じてわかったのだからいい作品だったと思う。イギリスのこういう児童文学というのはただ単におとぎ話を展開しているだけではなく、人生における大切な事を伝えているものだということがわかりました。

訳が悪いのか、原文がそうなのか、やたらと冗漫な文章が続き、読むのが苦痛だった。
ストーリーも作者の妄想のような独りよがりの情景描写が多くつまらなかった。
子供の頃にアニメや絵本でみたピーター・パンはとても楽しい物語だったのだが、原作はこんなにもつまらないのだと知ってがっかりした。
このつまらない原作を基に、あそこまで夢溢れるファンタジーを作り上げたディズニーは、やはり偉大だと思った。
