5.0 out of 5 stars 意外と実用的な、必携不朽の名作！, 2003/10/23
　最も有名な文学作品のひとつであるけれど、今読んでも全く違和感が
ない。優れた文学作品は不朽のものだとわからせてくれる好例だろう。
　波乱万丈のストーリー展開、そしてボヴァリー夫人の心理構造までよく読者に伝わるので、さすがはフローベール天才！なのである。
　最近読んだマノン・レスコーは、「なぜあなたはそうなの？」

といいたくなってしまった。こういうところに作家としての
力量があらわれるのかもしれない。
　私はこの物語、自戒のための書として大切に持っています。
　男性にも女性にも、両方に支持される作品でしょう。

「難破船の水夫のように、生活の孤独のうえに絶望した目をさまよわせつつ、
はるか水平線の靄のうちに白い帆のあらわれるのをもとめていた」（本文より）

現実世界とうまく折りあいをつけられない女性が、夢の世界に生きて死んでいく物語。

ボヴァリー夫人、エマみたいな人って、けっこう多いのではないかと思う。
彼女の場合、逃げる先は恋とぜいたくな買い物。
それが、人によっては宗教だったり二次元、ネット世界だったりするわけで。

人生はたいていが思うようにはいかないが、それにうまく折り合いをつけるか、あきらめるか、別の世界に逃避するか、それは人それぞれの選択である。
逃げる選択、それは先の見えない霧の道を走り続けるようなものだろうか。
帰ることもできなくて、ひたすら走って、最後は崖から落ちてしまうような危うさがある。

エマのすごいところは、徹底的に現実から逃げ切ったところではないかと思う。
フローベール自身もまた、ほとんど外に出ることなく、小説を書き続けた。
冷静なひきこもりが美しい文章を書くと、こうした作品になるのかもしれない。

「ボヴァリー夫人」って、ほんとにすばらしいと思う。心理描写、構成の緻密さ、小説としての完成度の高いこと！しかも内容がおもしろくてどんどん読める。エマの人物造形は秀逸だ。夢見がちのロマンチストで、現実を見ないで、もっとすてきなことはないかと考えている地に足のついていない女。フローベールは、「ボヴァリー夫人は私だ」と言ったというけれど、私も「ボヴァリー夫人は私かも！？」と思った。ちょっと恥ずかしい思いで。長編小説では、対比的な人物が出るというけど、彼女に対して俗物の典型は、夫のシャルルや、彼女に物を売りつける商人や、浮気者のルドルフなんかだろう。こちらの造形も見事で、「いるいるこんな人」と思わせる。彼女が現実への不満や、生来のロマンチックな性格で、破滅に追い込まれていくところが、なんとも哀れだった。「お馬鹿な女」なのだろうが、私は彼女を憎めない。
