アニメで育ったので、少し迷いましたが
表紙に違和感を覚えることは無く、まず安心。
ネロもパトラシエも全く異なる絵ですが雰囲気は似ており、
なかなか良いです。
安野光雅さんが描いていらしたのですね。

かなり昔の訳ですが古い印象は（私には）皆無で、
却ってシンプルで真っ当な訳かと。
さすが村岡女史と言いたいです。

正しい日本語の美しさに、改めて優しい気持ちになります。
それであの内容ですから、入り込まないわけがありません。
ごく短い話なので、気分転換にも相応しい一冊に思いました。

「ニューンベルクのストーブ」も良いです。

日本において、感動するものとして筆頭に上がるのがこの『フランダースの犬』でしょう。アニメの方ではありますが。人によってはアニメほど心打たれることはないかも知れません。主人公ネロは、アニメでは完全に子供といえる年齢ですが、この原作では１５歳くらいなのです。

あるいは、その年齢なら絶望してもなんとか生きぬいて欲しかったと思う人もいるかも知れません。とはいえ、この作品がハッピーエンドかバッドエンドか意見が分かれるところでしょう。ハッピーエンドとは言えないまでも、決してこれは悲劇ではないと言う人もいるでしょうし、いや、やはり人はいかなる状況であれ、生き抜いてこそ真の喜びがあるとの信念を持つ人もいるでしょう。その是非はともかく、作品としては死が、彼らにとって唯一の慈悲ということになっています。簡単に言えば「天国で、苦しみから解放されいつまでも楽しく暮らしました」という感じでしょうか。でもこれは村人に対する皮肉であるとともに、読者への警告、無慈悲な社会への批判をこめてこのような書き方をしているのだと思いますね。ですから作者は死を肯定しているわけではないと思います。

それにしても、芸術の才があるゆえに、芸術を志すがゆえに、人生を狂わせたと言う事実は、やはり悲しい運命ではないでしょうか。
ネロにルーベンスのような偉大な芸術家になって欲しかったというのが、多くの人の本音だと思います。

本書は、「フランダースの犬」と、「ニュールンベルクのストーブ」の二作品が収録されています。
フランダースの犬は、アニメで少し見ていただけだったので、今回小説で読みました。
原作は62ページと短いんですね。

ネロとパトラシェという社会の底辺で虐げられたものへの同情が真摯に伝わってきます。
才能を持っていても、誰よりも優しい心を持っていても、お金の無いことによって、不幸になることの切なさ。
フランダースの犬では、コゼツの旦那の娘を心配する気持ちも分らないでもなし、よりネロの不幸さを感じてしまいました。
後半、少し涙が出ました。

ニュールンベルクのストーブも、同じく貧乏な境遇の少年の話です。
こちらもなかなかいい作品でした。

どちらも深い感銘を受けました。
