作家になるジョーの視点で見ると、話がよく分かります。
一番年下の、我が儘なエミリーが、誰と結婚するのかも注目の的です。
女性の姉妹ばかりだと、こういう賑やかな家族になるんだということが分かりました。

小さい頃アニメで見ていて知っていましたが、内容はすっかり忘れていました。著者の育った家庭をモデルにして描かれていますから（もちろんオルコットも四姉妹です）、本当に生き生きとして、現実味を持っている作品だと思います。多くの人が４人の女の子のいずれかに当てはまるような気がしますね。皆それぞれに悩みを持ち、欲望や野心を持っています。そして自分の欠点がもたらした災いに遭うたびに、彼女らの優しい母親に諭されるのです。それは実に教訓的で、私達も襟を正さずにはおれないものです。それでいて少しも説教くさくないのは、母親の慈愛を通して語られるからでしょう。

この話は実際の経験からしか描けるものではないでしょう。オルコット自身、貧しくとも幸福な家庭に育ったからこそ、ここまで素晴らしい作品を生み出せたのだと思います。四姉妹の美しい青春の１ページを覗いて、共に笑い、泣いてみるのもいいでしょう。おもしろおかしく描かれていますから大人も子供も楽しめますが、やはり子供に読んでもらいたい素敵な一書です。続編の「続・若草物語」と合わせて読めば、なお一層楽しいですよ。

ついつい忙しいこの御時世に忘れがちな人に対する思いやり、そして充実した生き方とは何かを思い出させてくれる一冊。久し振りに読み返したくて買ったが、何度読んでも色あせる事無く心に訴えかけてくるこの物語は自分を見つめ直すのに非常に有効な一冊と感じられる。次の世代へと伝えていきたい小説です
