5.0 out of 5 stars 愛することを知らずして愛しすぎた男の身の上, 2006/7/24
嫉妬の悲劇。高潔で義に厚いムーア人の将軍オセローは、
旗手イアーゴーの謀略・奸智にひっかかって、優しくて
無垢な心の持ち主の妻デズデモーナが不義を副官キャシオウと
犯していると妄想してしまう。


デズデモーナの優しさと広大な愛の心に涙が止まらない。
大詰めのオセローの罪悪感と痛みも、又、悲しい。
悪のヒーローイアーゴーのキャラクターも印象的。

舞台化を意識しつつ、美しい日本語を以て訳された福田恒存氏の
名訳は読むたびに感銘を受ける。読みながら、自分が舞台に
立っているような錯覚を覚えることさえある。

声を出しながら読むことをお薦めしたい一冊である。

シェイクスピアの悲劇の中では一番家庭的で身近な悲劇。他の悲劇と違い、王族やその関係者ではなく軍人が主人公で、彼が部下の計略により妻に対し疑心暗鬼になってしまう。オセローの劣等感を刺激するイアーゴーの作戦は彼の心理を計算していて鋭いものがある。他の悲劇の雲の上の存在のような登場人物たちに比べ、人間らしいオセローに親近感を持つ人は多いのではないでしょうか。
