わざか190ページ、400円もしない文庫本でありながら、数多くの人生の
エッセンスが詰まった本であると思います。

貧しい木こりの子のふたりが幸せの青い鳥を探すために、いろいろな世界を
見てまわるわけですが、その過程でいままでに気付かなかったことの
大切さを知ります。子供向けというよりも、むしろ大人こそ、じっくりと

味わって読むことで、身近な人や与えられた環境の恵みを感じることが
出来るのではないでしょうか。

幸せの象徴として「青い鳥」という言葉が日本人ほど好きな国民はいないのではないでしょうか。「青い鳥」という名前のつく保育園や図書館、児童館があちこちにあるように思います。しかし、「青い鳥」＝幸せ　という印象をもつみなさまが原作を読まれているのかどうかは怪しいところで、題名のイメージが一人歩きしてしまったのではないか、と考えます。

つい最近、メーテルリンクの作品を読むまではわたくしも　「青い鳥」＝幸福　と漠然としたイメージをもっておりました。原作はそのような淡いパステルカラーの幸せを描いた作品ではなく、シビアな現実を目の前に突きつけられた感じがしました。

ほんとうの幸せ、生きる意味を知るためにもメーテルリンクの原作をぜひとも多くの方に読んでいただきたいと思います。

　チルチルとミチル、この名前は有名ですが何の小説に出てくるのかは全然知らなかった私にとって、この本はその謎を解き明かしてくれました。幸せをもたらすという青い鳥を探して、二人はさまざまな国を旅します。果たして、青い鳥は見つかるのでしょうか？

　余談ですが、この本は戯曲として書かれたものであり、普通の小説とは少し形が違います。でも読む支障とはならないので大丈夫です。
