ブラームスは一番好きな作曲家ではないですけども、ジュリーニやギレリスにかかると最高に輝く作曲家。クララ・シューマンやその他ブラームスの時代の演奏家、声楽家との関わりが評伝として書かれて居り、CDのライナーノートからだけでは知らなかったブラームスを取り巻く社会なり、音楽界の状況が分かる本。ブラームスの写真を見たいとは思わんかったですが、ブラームスが夏の作曲のときに訪れたスイスやオーストリアの豊かな自然風景の写真が納められて居り、第二交響曲やハイドンの主題による変奏曲からの爽やかな主題が頭によぎる本ですわな

この新潮文庫の作曲家シリーズ。
文庫本だからと、侮ってはいけません。

そこらへんの平凡な作曲家の伝記本とは異なり、
内容はなかなか充実しています。

カラー写真も豊富。しかし破格に安い（初版当時のまま？？？）

表紙が古くさいので、どんな本が届くのかと思ったら、薄めですが真っ白で厚手の紙が使用されていて、豊富な写真がきれいにカラー印刷されていました。
これはまるでブラームス百科事典ですね。
