当時の雰囲気が漂っていてストーリーも展開のテンポもよく、ドンドン読み進めることが出来ました。
いつの間にか引き込まれて主人公である乱歩の立場から読むことができ楽しむ事が出来ました。乱歩
の作品と比較すると若干上品な印象を受けますがマイナスとなるほどのものではありません。作品中で
乱歩と同年代の作家と作品を引用している部分が多々ありますのでそれらの作家の知識があると更に楽
しめると思います。また、引用されている作家の作品も良書が多いので、それらもチェックしてみると
良いと思います。おススメします。

久世さんの作品の中では一番好きです。
どれも独特の雰囲気がありますが、中でもこれはイイです。

懐古趣味的で、乱歩の世界の濃密なエロティシズムと差し色のようなグロテスク。
美青年に気を引かれる中年男、という部分は少し「ベニスに死す」を彷彿とさせ、
またあるときは美女に目移りし、ホテルの隣の部屋に怪奇的妄想を抱いたりする、
スランプで情緒不安定になっている乱歩の、外人向けホテルに逃避中の数日間（？）を描いています。

また、そんな生活から生み出される妄想を昇華したような小説が、
作中作で全部読めるんですが、これは乱歩っぽいといえば乱歩っぽいんですが、
何かもっとこう･･･熟れた桃の中にどっぷり入ってめくるめく陶酔に酔っ払ったような感じです。

アクがあってくせになるタイプの本です。私はめったに読み返しはしないのですが、
これはときどき読み返してしまいます。雰囲気にひたりたい時に。

乱歩への久世氏のねじくれた偏愛は「梔子姫」で乱歩以上に乱歩という最上の艶かしさで幕を閉じる。
