表題作『中国の鳥人』、『ちくわ』、『たどん』とこの中から３話が映画化された好短編集。しかし、ぼくが一番好きな話は『蚊無し川』である。山奥に渓流釣りに出かけた二人の男が、見てしまったものは何なのか。ぼくは読むたびに、「うーむ」と思う。椎名さんと言えば、私小説や旅ルポなどのほうがよく知られているだろうけど、ぼくは短編のほうが、「作家・椎名誠」の才気が発揮されているように思える。
